They are a dozen of actors with only one suitcase and one souvenir... It seems that they just arrived from a “no man's land” and eventually met in an unknown place where they don't know the rules, the lifestyle and all the hidden secrets.

A unique combination of theatre, circus and folklore, the first New Circus production in Slovakia brings together traditional and modern approaches of contemporary theatre. By turning elements of folklore upside down, we tell the mysterious 300-year-old story of the greatest Slovak hero from a broader perspective, with humour and most importantly without clichés, which was the main reason for hiring a foreign director. The story is inspired by Juraj Jánošík, a real historical figure, who represents the struggle for freedom of a small nation dominated by the powerful Austrian monarchy around the year 1707. Legend has it that Jánošík robbed the rich and gave to the poor. Was he a thief or a hero? We know from history that despite being severely tortured, he never revealed the whereabouts of the royal treasure, nor did he betray his band of brigands. In addition, his execution was extremely cruel – he was hanged by his rib on a hook. Our production does not aim to glorify, nor to devalue the national hero, but it also does not take you on a historical excursion. We work with metaphors based on human behaviour, social diversity, relationships and current issues. Inspired by the New Circus and ancient folklore, this comedy for theatre eliminates stereotypes and barriers. |
... They came from the not-so-distant past and therefore see the present-day world through somewhat different eyes. They appear to be blissfully naive and willing to help everyone and in every place. They are obsessed with orderliness, trying scrupulously to tidy up the city, its citizens, and every single thing that catches their eye. They surprise passers-by with their funny behavior, provoke and make them laugh by creating absurd and surreal situations. these two strangers came from. Music that is heard from their suitcases is the only clue as to where these two strangers came from. By accepting the rules of that unfamiliar world the audience, for a short while, becomes part of this performance. What do these ‘guests from the past’ see; how do they perceive a different reality; how do they respond to the behavior of the audiene these questions lie at the bottom of ad hoc improvisations in the Arrived that, in turn, owes much to the participation of the audience. |

In a village in Eastern Europe which is neither near nor far, in a time which is neither present, past or future, a great feast is being prepared. The villagers are very excited and run here and there juggling, performing acrobatics and getting up to all sorts of mischief... because it's going to be a very special day. Framed in time, in one of those photographs which we sometimes see in our mind's eye, the Circus Klezmer Wedding is being celebrated. Circus Klezmer is a magical synthesis of circus disciplines, a well-defined plot and characters, all to the accompaniment of live klezmer music. |
"(…) greatest shows not only feed on love and good intentions and the Circus Klezmer is one of them: due to the overflowing imagination with which they weave a splendid plot from a few cardboard boxes, to the exact definition of some characters which hardly speak, to the exceptional acrobatic, wire-walking and juggling scenes, to the fantastic setting of the story they tell, to the surprises they offer to us, to the always present live music, to the laugh (…) Lovely." |
Call me Maria is above all an immersion in the Barcelona of the 50's , with a Rock'n'roll background. Spain became a U.S. military base and Barcelona port very popular among the Americans. The meeting between foreign sailors and Barcelona spanish population, was in the newly opened bars where the rock'n'roll ... made its debut. A Culture shock!
